Sunny weather, long evenings…have your thoughts been turning to the beach lately? Well, thanks to the very kind folk at the Roundhouse, there’s no need to jump into the car or hop on a plane. This August,they will be throwing open the Camden Beach.
They told me:
“Tucked away on our sunny terrace, each August we turn our car park into Camden Beach. This little slice of paradise attracted over 40,000 visitors last year, and our 2014 beach is set to be even bigger and better than before.
900 square metres and 150 tonnes of the finest sand, end-of-the-pier amusements, pop-up fish restaurant, beach huts, rooftop garden, swimming pool, ping pong and live music – so if you can’t get to the beach, we’re bringing the beach to you!”
And if you like the idea of that, you’ll love the opening party:
“On 25 July, we’re hosting a party to celebrate the launch of Camden Beach. Attendees will receive exclusive access to the beach before we open to the public in August. We’re hosting the night to raise vital funds so we can continue life-changing opportunities for thousands of young people each year through our Emerging Artist Scheme.
On the night we have DJ sets from Roundhouse Ambassadors Eliza Doolittle and Lliana Bird, as well as music performances from Emerging Artists: Tempting Rosie, Cynikal and Roundhouse Brass Ensemble. We’ll also have a Live Photobooth, Poetry Takeaway, a Raffle with incredible prizes, and lots more surprises on the night!”
With a cocktail in your hand and your toes in the sand, you will be glad to know that you are supporting the amazing work that goes on all year round at the Roundhouse. Iconic music venue it certainly is, but charitable work is at its very heart:
“We help improve the lives of up to 3,000 young people a year by providing space, mentoring, equipment, projects and performance opportunities. 45% of these young people are from our local area, and 60% of these young people are facing a social and economic disadvantage. Unlocking young people’s creative potential is the reason behind everything we do at the Roundhouse – every penny of profit from tickets, beers and food sold goes towards this work.”
