The Pembroke Castle stands out as the first site when approaching Primrose Hill from Chalk Farm; and deservedly so as it is one of the oldest places having been serving beer since 1839. Founded to provide a watering hole for the Welsh contingent that were constructing the tracks and stations in north London. Now owned by Stonegate and after a recent renovation, iLPH ventured to test the Sunday Roast.

Walking in there is a great Victorian pub style leading to a garden that from about 1pm through to beyond 4pm has one the great Sun ray captures! The Sunday option had some very Pembroke features with a great idea of a “Sunday share” comprising all the roasts and would work well for groups of three and over. Also I have to applaud the unlimited roasties and Yorkshire puddings. I personally devoured five Yorkshires; though two would be enough for most! The options of the turkey, the lamb shank, the beef and the cauliflower tart was just right and different.
The drinks were of good measure and nice price points. And we found something we had not seen before an Australian sparkling rose. This was also beautifully delivered by the team with a strawberry slice atop each flute. This worked remarkably to create an aroma of sparkling strawberry rose! Perfect to help us enjoy the sun even more!

You will never ever go hungry or thirsty at The Pembroke and try and grab the back tables on a sunny afternoon. And the team are very focused on looking after you and making the small touches like the strawberry slices that really make a difference. And if you like London Pride there is a good bitter but I could not resist a nicely headed Guinness to finish.
