iLPH went to visit the ‘Works On Paper’ Exhibition by the Hampstead Art Society at the Regent’s Park Gallery. The Hampstead Art Society are run by artists and their current exhibition features a variety of different subjects, settings as well as various different colourful backgrounds.
CORNETTO BY ILARIA ROSSELLI DEL TURCO
This drawing stood out for me because of how its dark colours created a black shadow of a woman eating an Italian Cornetto ice cream. This gave ‘Cornetto’ strong dark Italian vibes. As if to make the point that Italy was the country this engraving was taking place in. Cornetto was drawn onto a copper plate and is transferred through a reaction onto a fine art paper. It is an etching. Ilaria was a fine art paper student that studied in Florence, which explains where the Italian aspect comes from the drawing. She comes from an Italian family. One of her ancestors was a renaissance painter called Cosimo Rosselli.
BASKING BY A BLACK SEA BY FRED BORGHESI
This drawing strongly stood out towards me because of the strong dark blue, black and pink colours that were used. As well as the pitch black surface that is used which creates a shade over the woman’s face. The blue background setting stands out the most towards my eyes in this drawing because of its sea-like appearance and variety of different blue colours. It is an imaginary drawing. Fred Borghesi works in London and is a multimedia artist.
LIGHT PLAY BY LEOPOLD NENNING
This drawing stood out towards me because it features an everyday country life situation, of someone sitting in a garden outside a house that appears to be in the countryside. It creates a bucolic image in my mind. Although it could also be in a city. You can get a strong sense of nature through looking at this drawing from the dark green colour trees and bushes at the side. As well as the grassy dark green surface and the shadowy tree outlines on the grass. Leopold Nenning is an Austrian artist. His work arrived from Vienna.
Overall, a fantastically artistic time was had at the exhibition. It was amazing meeting Mari Tskiria as well as interacting with all of the other artists there. It was brilliant to see how artistically amazing all of the Hampstead Art Society’s artists paintings and drawings were.
