ECHOES AND REFLECTIONS

Advertisements

Primrose Hill artist Sara Lee Roberts spent last summer as Artist in Residence at Giverny, Monet’s house and garden which inspired so much of his best known work. Her newest exhibition, ‘Echoes and Reflections’ is a response to her time in that wonderful place.

See Sara’s work at The Bindery, 53 Hatton Garden, EC1N 8HN, Tuesdays to Fridays 11am to 6pm.

GIVERNY

Giverny is a distinctive large oil on linen canvas. The canvas creates a profound sensitivity to place and experience through its bright colours making you feel that you are in a bright sunlit park-like space. The way that the colours in the painting are presented makes them immediately leap out at your eyes which creates an intersection of experiencing the scene created in the oil on linen. The bright green colours in the painting creates the idea in my mind of being in a park.

FIRST LIGHT

First Light has a great level of depth and complexity through being in a remote jungle like setting. It would bring back to the viewer’s mind any memory they might have of being in a jungle. For anyone who hasn’t been to a jungle this would create the emotion of longing to have been there. First Light creates an emotion of interest for the viewer as the sunrises within this setting. The most distinctive feature of this painting is the mountain. This is how all of the lights created within this painting shine upon the mountain. For example, like how the sun rises.

DREAM

Dream strongly stood out towards me because of how all of its colours are dark. For example, how the sun is depicted as being dark yellow and its brightness depicted on the sea is also dark yellow. Usually the sun and its reflective rays are bright but in this case they are dark. A melancholic sense is created in this painting through how all of the dark colours appear within this ocean like setting.
