Our favourite local cafes include:
Spirit of L’Absinthe, Chalcot Road. Sibling to L’Absinthe restaurant, squeeze onto one of the tables to eat in, or take out great-value sandwiches, soups and salads. Also a catering service – take home your supper to heat up, or get them to knock something up for your dinner party. They made a gorgeous Boeuf Bourguingnan for my mother’s birthday recently; but did I pass it off as my own work..?
Anthony’s Deli, corner of Regent’s Park Road and Sharpleshall Street. Packed with dog-walking locals enjoying a chinwag over their coffee.
Cafe 79, Regent’s Park Road. Retro-veggie offerings – the soups are always hearty and the mushrooms on toast spectacular – with paintings for sale on the walls.
Melrose and Morgan, Gloucester Avenue, near the canal. Great coffee, all manor of high-end treats to be enjoyed in their informal red seating area or taken home.
