Will They? Won’t They? The Primrose Hill Fair is an on-off-on again affair

Latest: ‘The show is going to go ahead’
(Councillor Johhny Bucknell, as quoted in today’s Ham and High).

The Primrose Hill Fair, set up by the Primrose Hill Business Association, is a relatively new twice-yearly tradition, but over the few years it has been running has proved popular with locals and some – but not all – businesses.

Planning for this year’s Fair was underway, when out of the blue a Tweet abruptly announced that it had been called off. More information was unearthed by the Ham and High and the CNJ, who reported that complaints regarding the effect of the Fair on certain local businesses, and disappointment with the quality of the Christmas lights, which are paid for with profits from the Fair, had caused the organisers to throw in the towel.

Last night the Greenberry Cafe bravely hosted a meeting to bring the two sides together, to share their concerns and opinions and to attempt to reach a compromise. Well, the air was cleared, and dispatches from the front line report that peace looks to have broken out. The Fair, as things stand, is going ahead.
