ANDREW MARR AND JOHN SNOW by Primrose Hill Spy

PRIMROSE HILL SPY WRITES…

Another tremendously enjoyable and successful fundraiser for the library occurred at Cecil house last Thursday. A few hundred of young and old residents piled into Cecil Sharp House to listen to two popular broadcasters, Andrew Marr and Jon Snow.

Like a successful dinner party the evening whizzed by with more bons mots than anyone could have expected and with a nice sense of enjoyment and enlightenment at the end. And like the best convivial evening the topics ranged far and wide, Guinea worm to Putin, Belarus to Washington.

We had a fascinating self-analysis of being radical, political, pushing boundaries and even reflection on what went wrong. Strong views on Iraq, the BBC, Scotland and the USA permeated. Kind words for China, Putin, big pharma, but not Blair. And a surprising questioning of the role of the heart of the establishment, Parliament, in the modern age. Has it really not changed since 1827?

These are two of the leading media professionals of our age. Entertaining by their nature. Blessed are we that they move so happily as Primrose Hill residents.
