From 1858 to 1920 the Boys’ Home Industrial School for the Training and Maintenance, by Their Own Labour, of Destitute Boys Not Convicted of Crime housed and taught well over fifteen hundred destitute children, providing them with ‘moral guidance’, schooling and a practical training which gave them the ability to support themselves in life. Martin Sheppard tells the story of this remarkable institution from the records and illustrations it left behind.
Martin Sheppard is the author of Primrose Hill: A History (2013).
The talk lasts fifty minutes and will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions.
