Sam’s Cafe has been a favourite with Primrose Hill locals and visitors for some time now, in its former Regent’s Park Road location and now on the corner of Fitzroy and Chalcot Roads. Adam is a big fan and a regular, particularly at lunchtime.
Adam put his questionnaire to Lindsey, the very popular and friendly manager, and here are her responses…
Linsey, what made you decide to open Sam’s Café in Primrose Hill?
Our good friend Sam Frears has always loved the idea of a local café, a place where everyone is welcome and the food is good. My husband Andrew and I decided to help him make this happen.
- What made you choose the green and yellow colour design for your café?
Why not, we love colour and good design!
- What are your most popular dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that your customers order the most?
People love our traditional Full English. Our Turkish Cilber goes down a treat too, healthy, tasty, gluten free and vegetarian so a real winner.
- What is your most popular yearly event?
Our Supper Club is definitely one of our events that keeps getting stronger and stronger. We’ve had people arrive knowing no one and leaving with dinner plans for the following week and a babysitter to go!
- Which is your favourite yearly event?
We love Halloween, can’t get enough of it. Warm chilli, baked potatoes and a good excuse to get the decorations out!
- What has been your favourite memory of your café being open in Primrose Hill? What have been the main highlights as well?
There’s nothing better than when Sam’s Café is full for a music event, there’s a real buzz around the place. One brilliant memory was when Graham Coxon from Blur played a few tunes on his acoustic guitar.
- Which famous people/ celebrities have been in your café and would you like to tell us about any of your interactions with them?
We have a multitude of interesting people visit us for the relaxing atmosphere, the friendly staff make it a real home from home. Please could you remind Ben Stiller, Bob Dylan & Taylor Swift that what happens at Sam’s stays in Sam’s!! ; )
- What are the main benefits/ advantages of your café being open in Primrose Hill?
Being so close to one of the most beautiful parks in London.
- What problems/ challenges have you had of being open in Primrose Hill?
Trying to create a genuine community café in one of London’s busiest areas has been a challenge – keeping the prices low, maintaining a great atmosphere, tailoring the service to suite people of different ages and cultures requires full time attention but we are proud of the diversity and quality that Sam’s Café represents.
- What are your future plans for Sam’s Café?
Building on the brilliant community spirit here in PH, holding more music and literary based events and making Sam’s Café a third space in the lives of the local residents. Work, home, Sam’s.
