Nuyu London, 9 Princess Road, Primrose Hill NW1 8JN, 0203 204 2020
Sam and her team have been beautifying the people of Primrose Hill and beyond for many years now. Adam wanted to know what makes them tick…
How was NuYu London first established?
On a flight to Thailand – I had been thinking of changing careers and setting my own business up. I came up with the name and registered the business whilst I was away then left my job and started training on my return.
What have been the highlights of the clinic being open on Primrose Hill? Friendliness and willingness of the Primrose Hill community to support local businesses. We have also been lucky enough to have some good exposure online and I was very excited to be featured in the Sunday Times by Sarah Jossel as one of the best laser hair clinics.
What are the benefits of the clinic being open on Primrose Hill?
I started the business in Shad Thames SE1 – it was a great start but the move to Primrose hill over 10 years ago was the best thing for Nuyu. Its an excellent location and has a great local feel. My clients come from all over and often make more of a trip by going to the hill or visiting the many pubs, cafes and restaurants.
What are the problems of the clinic being open on Primrose Hill?
Personally, my location has not created any problems. Princess Road is quieter than Regents Park Road but it creates a tranquil environment for the clinic.
Which of your treatments sell the most in your clinic and why?
Over the last 4 years since COVID, for me I would say laser hair removal. It’s a great long term treatment so well worth the investment. For the three medical professionals I would say wrinkle reduction treatments. We are finding clients are prioritising self care treatments.
Which of your treatments sell the least in your clinic and why?
Peels – They require commitment from clients with pre and post care skincare. Given peels can make the skin sun sensitive this has limitations that can make them unsuitable for year-round application.
How has Brexit impacted your company?
Luckily Brexit hasn’t affected my business in terms of suppliers of products and supply chain. However I know for a number of businesses and industries it’s been very difficult.
How does NuYu engage with the Primrose Hill Community?
I feel very lucky to have a business in Primrose Hill. All of the business owners have a connection and look to support each other. I personally try to visit as many local businesses as possible – whether it’s for dinner and drink, shopping or personal care – we have it all covered in the area. You will always find me waving as local residents pass the clinic.
What advice would you give to anyone wanting to open a business in primrose Hill?
I would say go for it! It’s an amazing area to work in. Primrose Hill has a strong sense of community, and local support can be invaluable. Go out and meet the other business owners. If you offer high-quality products and services and exceptional customer service the local residents will be very loyal. The area also appeals to the wider London market as its a destination to visit.
What are your future plans for NuYu and which direction do you think that it will be going in the future?
My plan is to provide my current and new clients with the personal customer service they love. Hence we will always be a small family business run by expert professionals. We have been very lucky since COVID to be nicely busy and we hope in the coming years this continues.
