PARKSCAPES EXHIBITION

iLPH went to the Parkscapes Exhibition at the Regent’s Park Gallery. Parkscapes has 80 artworks of Hampstead Heath, Primrose Hill, Regents Park to Battersea, Richmond and many other parks beyond. It was lovely meeting the artists as well as Sophie Levi who runs Regents Park Gallery. The prices of the artwork range from £80 to £5,000.

SOWTHISTLE BY MAGGIE JENNINGS

A key theme of the exhibit is highlighting the different aspects of nature within a variety of parks. This painting is a thistle with frons in the background. It is just as it appears in a field of frons or dying fields. It is imitations of mortality. Sowthistle stood out strongly towards me because of the green colour variety. As well as the dark black background setting. What is most unique about Sowthistle is that the painting would have this same colourful appearance during day or night in a park.

STUDY FOR PRIMROSE HILL SELFIES BY THOMAS DORAN

A key theme of Parkscapes is highlighting the sunniness of parks. Study For Primrose Hill Selfies is the first of a series of distant portraits. This is inspired by a Summer’s afternoon on the summit of Primrose Hill. The painting above strongly stood out towards me because of how there is someone doing a handstand in the photo. As well as going to the top of the hill a lot and seeing this sunny scenery regularly. Overall, what attracted my attention the most towards this painting is how it brings out the best of Primrose Hill’s Viewpoint’s beautiful sunny scenery.

SUNSET IN THE PARK (X)

A key theme of Parkscapes is how sunsets can change the image of a park. This painting strongly stood out towards me because of the imagery depicted of how sunset is coming into the park. Nobody being in the painting creates a sense of abandonment because of how it is uninhabited as night sets in. For example, the football pitch is uninhabited as nobody is standing in the goal posts. What stands out the most towards my eyes is the orange skyline forming because it shows how the sunset is setting in the painting.

Overall, a brilliantly artistic time was had a t the exhibition. It was nice seeing Sophie Levi there as well as all the other artists. The different forms of Parkscapes art were amazing at capturing my eye. They made me think deeper about the true meaning of the change of scenery within the different parks. As well as what we should all expect them to be like and what to look out for.
