INTERNAL LANDSCAPES

iLPH went to visit the Internal Landscapes private viewing at the Regent’s Park Gallery featuring Susan Sciama’s paintings. Susan Sciama is known as being an artist and writer. Her paintings were beautifully presented within the exhibition through their colourful variety.

FLOAT BY SUSAN SCIAMA

Float features very organic circular shapes and spaces. It is a sense of presence. This links to a key theme of the exhibit which is to evoke emotions within people. For example, the crimson red circle within the centre of the painting could create a sense of disconcertment for the viewer. Because crimson red is associated with blood. Or a massive fiery explosion. The pitch black streak going through the crimson red blob creates a strong sense of disconcertment because of how this colour is associated with negativity. For example, staining through coal. The black streak creates a sense of staining on the red crimson blob because of how it’s still visible despite going through it. In analysis, it creates a black coal like stain on the circular blob that is visible for the viewer.

DREAM OF ISLANDS BY SUSAN SCIAMA

Dream of Islands strongly stood out because of its colourful nature and emotional elements. This continues the themes of nature, emotions and memories. Because it would bring back to the viewers’s minds the memories of nature and of the emotions they might have experienced if they have seen various islands on a boat. Or when seeing them in a tv show or a film or within a book. The different green parts of the painting are eye grabbing because islands could take any shape. The light and dark blue colours create the image of the sea surrounding the green shapes. In analysis, this creates an image of nature for the viewers that would bring back memories into their minds the emotions they would have had experiencing going to islands.

BREATH BY SUSAN SCIAMA

Breath strongly stands out towards the viewer because of its distinctive nature like features. For example, how the green objects create the images of light grass. As well as how the blue elements create a water like image. For example, it could create the image idea in the viewers’s mind of water landing on grass. The light green and blue background colours in the painting create a bright grassy green and blue sky like background. When they are combined together.

Overall, a brilliantly artistic time was had at the exhibition. It was artistically inspiring seeing how she combined elements of nature, art, dreams, emotions and memories in her abstract paintings. It was amazing meeting Susan Sciama whose a Primrose Hill resident.
