The Lacock Scholars returned in a blaze of glory to perform at St Mark’s last Sunday, 21st June. Originally formed from a group of young participants on Lacock Courses, they expanded their numbers and performed a large scale work of music from outside their normal Renaissance repertoire. Impactful music, intriguingly performed in a beautiful setting, made for quite the memorable Midsummer evening.

It was amazing watching the Lacock Scholars perform the piece, Path of Miracles by Joby Talbot, in a variety of different ways. They did something really unique which was performing a choral cantata in four movements whilst using the whole of the space of the church, moving and singing in ways that were both surprising and enchanting. The piece considered and described the experience of pilgrims on the Compostela Way, with the challenges and inspiration that journey entails cleverly represented.
It was gripping to watch them standing still and singing as well as processing and singing across the church. It was amazingly entertaining watching them move as they processed and performed across different sections of St Mark’s. It was fascinating to hear the Lacock Scholars sing dramatically about Christianity and history.
