VERT EXHIBITION

iLPH went to visit the Vert Exhibition at the Regent’s Park Gallery. The three exhibition artists represented are Daisy Millner, who’s a visual artist living in London. Phoebe Cope who’s an Irish painter living in the Scottish Borders. Mary Millner who’s a London based artist.

BOUNDLESS PATHS BY MARY MILLNER

A vibrant abstract painting depicting a forest scene with a mix of green foliage, textured tree trunks, and dappled light filtering through the leaves.

Mary drew Boundless Paths when walking through Sherwood Forest because she had an invite to Thoresby Hall. Boundless Paths is supposed to draw you into a forest and was painted through life. It’s set in Sherwood Forest. When you’re in Sherwood Forest you get to see all of these trees. The key theme of the exhibition was highlighting the theme of forests. This painting strongly stood out towards me because of how the trees were visually drawn to make the viewer feel like they were standing in a forest. In analysis, Boundless Paths would give you a great idea of what Sherwood Forest is scenically like without ever visiting it before.

WAMBA BY MARY MILLNER

A painting depicting a rider on a white horse navigating through a mystical forest, accompanied by a greyhound. The rider is dressed in traditional attire with a red hat, while the vibrant foliage and tree trunks create an enchanting atmosphere.

Wamba is the person riding the horse in the painting. He is the jester that deliberately misleads people in Sherwood Forest. The colour white is used to illuminate both him, the horse and what appears as his dog from being a different colour from the rest of the forest. The dark blue and black skyline merges together to indicate night falling over Sherwood Forest. The dark blue colour behind the trees indicates daytime turning to night within the forest. Overall, this painting gives off a sinister impression towards the viewer because Wamba is planning on carrying out his bad intentions when there is darkness within Sherwood Forest.

AFTER TITIAN BY DAISY MILLNER

An artistic depiction of a person drawing a bow and arrow in a lush forest, with two colorful birds in the foreground and a deer in the background.

After Titian has been created using a variety of different types of green and brown colours that you would expect to find in a forest. These colours are overcome with a dark shadow which creates both dark and light parts of a forest. Overall, this painting makes me think of a huntress going out to a forest to hunt an animal like being with a bow and arrow. In analysis, Daisy uses the colours of white and red well to indicate this as being what this sewing on canvas is about.

Overall, a brilliantly artistic time was had at the exhibition. It was amazing meeting Mary Millner, Daisy Millner and Phoebe Cope. The exhibition gave you the feeling of standing in a variety of forests with different things taking place, across a variety of seasons. It was brilliant to soak up the impression of the three artists’ artwork combined together.
