THE WINTER TERRACE AT THE NARROW, LIMEHOUSE

Last night I stepped out of Primrose Hill to sample the delights of the newly-opened Winter Terrace at The Narrow, Gordon Ramsay’s pub/bar/restaurant in Limehouse.

Far to the east of our little patch of North-West London, it’s surprisingly easy to reach: Chalk Farm to Bank on the Northern Line, a switch onto the DLR for two stops, a five-minute walk down to the river and and you’re there.

The bar is welcoming, the restaurant is comfortable, but keep going and you’ll find the Winter Terrace, a festive conservatory filled with sofas and decorated for the season.  It differs in style from the Winter Cabin at our local York and Albany – less ski lodge, more cruise ship through the fjords – but cocktails are suitably warming and snacks are hearty and pleasingly presented.

My top tip though, especially if you want to impress a date with your low-key but chic good taste, would be to take a weekend winter walk along the Thames, with the Winter Terrace at the Narrow as your destination.

You’re welcome.
