Love on Inishcoo, 1787 is a true love story from 231 years ago, set on an Irish island, where Edmund Cobb Hurry, a Norfolk merchant, met Eliza Liddell, a governess. They fell in love, but after five weeks he had to sail away without her. Over the next year, they wrote to each other while far apart: fifty of their poignant love letters survive. All ended happily when the couple married in Putney in August 1788. Martin Sheppard tells their extraordinary story
