Terra Alta Wine Tasting: 8 Wine Makers & 10 Wines
A multi-sensory introduction to the story of wine making in Terra Alta DO, Catalonia
Wednesday 10th October from 7pm
Primrose Hill is indeed a great spot that we all love.
But sometimes we forget that there are other beautiful places off ‘the island’.
One of these being Terra Alta, the visually breath-taking south-western province in Catalonia, Spain.
Picasso used to hang out here and this is where he developed cubism. The landscape is not only good looking but also ideal for growing grapes and recent evidence uncovered in Terra Alta suggests there was already wine production activity pre-dating the Romans arrival in 230BC.
It is understandable if you have never heard about wine from this little known “Denominación de Origen” Terra Alta DO.
Until a few years ago the small community of 12,000 produced wine for self-consumption only, but since then, due to hard work, enthusiasm and investment in modern technology this has changed and wine of the highest quality is now produced and exported.
Actually wine specialists in-the-know are forecasting Terra Alta DO to be the next up and coming top wine appellation in Spain and probably the world.
Unfortunately, it’s difficult to find a bottle of wine from this region unless you live in Terra Alta, USA, Japan or Switzerland.
Fortunately over the last year I’ve been busy filming a documentary about the passionate and talented wine makers of Terra Alta and I have been able to secure 20 of the very best bottles from the producers.
I would like to share these with the members of The Fitzroy Club.
Michael Nadra has offered to host the tasting at his restaurant and has promised to put together a selection of small dishes to complement the wines.
I’ll show parts of the documentary alongside the tasting and will be including some insider tales from the wine makers themselves on the art of wine making.
We’ll also have help on hand from Bethany Keating from the North London Wine School who will be happy to answer any trickier questions.
All profits go to the PHCA
