ADAM ASKS: JEREMY BASS

Jeremy Bass is a well-known and popular figure in Primrose Hill, not least because he has facilitated many local home purchases! His friendly and down-to-earth approach has endeared him to the community. Adam put his questionnaire to Jeremy, and here are his responses.

How did you establish your business?

I had a client who was looking to buy property in the area and realised that he had an empty corner double aspect commercial premises here in Chalcot Road, that was literally used as a storage space only. The blinds were permanently down and, although perhaps a secondary position to the shops on Regent’s Park Road, is ideal for a residential sales agency as we are amongst the homeowners working their village.

  • What made you choose the blue and yellow colours?

The blue & yellow logo is actually a Primrose that was designed for me by my late mother, Jill Bass.

  • What is your company’s unique selling point?

Our unique selling point is our extensive knowledge of the residential sales market in Primrose Hill and surrounding areas gathered in the 25 years we have been established, and I personally have been an estate agent since 1983 and have acquired considerable experience during that time of how buyers and sellers like to progress a transaction to a successful outcome, right from the first moment of instruction through to giving the keys to the new owner on completion day.

  • What have been the highlights of your company being open on Primrose Hill?

So many highlights to mention as celebrities and high profile business people have made their home here. Client confidentiality must not be betrayed or breached. I am always excited to get to work every day as you never know what will happen next!

  • What have been the benefits of your company being open on Primrose Hill?

The benefits of being on Primrose Hill is that this is an area where people want to come and visit. World class London Zoo, stunning Regent’s Park, the buzz of Camden Market, and chilled dog friendly cafes and patisseries in the village are great attractions. You can also walk to West End.  What’s more, parking is free here after 6pm and over the weekends. This makes Primrose Hill so desirable to buy a property in and will remain so as we are a tiny island.

  • What have been the main problems/ challenges that your business faces?

Our challenges have been many throughout the years including: Brexit, the pandemic, energy crisis, cost of living crisis, interest rate hikes, and the effects of various wars around the world have had on our economy, let alone general elections.

  • Which type of properties sell the most?

The properties that sell the most are those that are priced realistically.

  • Which area out of Primrose Hill, Belsize Park, Chalk Farm, Hampstead, and St John’s Wood sells the most?

Conservation areas you refer to here in north west London, have all different amounts of residential property within and in all different price ranges and they will tell you they all sell the most. Of course!

  • How does your company get involved with the Primrose Hill community?

I got involved with the local community by being on the committee of Primrose Hill Community Association, invited by the late Jean Rossiter (who was the founder member and wonderful neighbour) and remained an active member for some 15 years helping raise funds for the summer fate each year in Chalcot Square.

Do you think that your company will expand and which direction do you think that it will be going in the future?

My wife Angela, daughters Georgia & Lauren, and of course more recently our beagle Snoopy, are my inspiration and the reason I wanted to establish a business and now, we are the last and only remaining family business in Primrose Hill specialising in residential property sales.
