Primrose Hill has the best array of pubs in London; five within a small vicinity and each with their own character and great staffing. In the twenty first century the competition is on for providing the best food. We love The Princess and the Sunday roast did not let us down.

Classic feeling inside the pub and links well to Primrose Hill’s old Victorian heritage. And very dog welcoming; important for the regulars! Of course now we expect wine, cocktails and indeed mocktails. A grapefruity white from Gascogny, an aromatic Sangiovese and a refreshing, well presented Virgin Mary started us off. The dogs were kindly provided with a bowl of water and cheekily shared some of our meat at the end. They left with tails wagging!

We went light on the starters with potato and leak soup and calamari, resisting the temptation of the memorably fiery chicken wings. Now could the Princess pull off notable roast? The special of the slow cooked shoulder of lamb attracted us and even better it was for three to share.
Coming with full compliment of roasted vegetables and mint sauce, the lamb was a classic. Enough for four by the way (and our canine friends too). Great Yorkshire puddings and the lamb fell off the bone. Easy to see why best to book on a Sunday!

We shared one dessert, that was a clever doughnut knockout. A great value Americano and finished off with one of our favourite stouts, from the Princess itself. And the staff nailed everything.
Now that was a great Sunday roast luncheon!
