Ace Mother’s Day at the fun and homely Sam’s Cafe; the hub of Chalcot Road and one of our favourite “goto” places. Alongside a menu that has something for everyone throughout the day, Sam’s is a magnet for young parents at the weekends and a great place to sit outside and have a coffee in the sun during the week. Brought to life by an engaging, happy staff team that want you to enjoy what Sam’s has to offer, which is always well cooked and presented and interesting fayre.

The offering for us was a roast on Mothering Sunday. We approached with two mothers, two fathers, one daughter, one son, a son in law and a daughter in law and a grandson; and they fitted us all in comfortably on their long table in the hall of mirrors.

We idled through the menu supported by a bottle of bubbly, supplemented by the excellent Gouguenheim Malbec and enhanced by six mimosas (small amount extra with the roast). Those mimosas were good! And the home made smoothie helped quench the non-drinking author.

We mainly went for the chicken roast that came with the Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and roasted vegetables. The hake was also taken and enjoyed. All just right for that Sunday luncheon feeling. Surely, little room for dessert we had thought; but we ploughed on with the cherry pie, berries, vegan ice cream and chocolate brownie!

Quite the Sunday afternoon as the general hubbub pace of comings and goings in the cafe and the happy staff and just right food set a great scene. Indeed possibly we spotted an Oscar winner and that seemed to make the mothers even happier!

We will always be back!
