The Albert Pub in Primrose Hill is doing a deal on Monday where it only costs £4 for a pint of cask ale. The inside of the pub is very Victorian themed. With lots of old fashioned style chairs and tables; no music or TVs but many board games. The Albert is also well known for having a spacious outdoor beer garden with useful heaters! We sat there when drinking the beers enjoying the feeling of a country pub. Though beer was our focus we chatted with the chef who was drinking there on his day off – always a good sign! – and let us know about his new menu that we will be back to try because those dishes looked great!
ALLSOPP’S BEST BITTER
The Allsopp’s Best Bitter Ale was the darkest and lowest alcohol content. A classic dark black plum flavour. Designed for cold weather and an open fire.
The Five Points XPA had the lightest colouring and a taste of sweet apricot tart. Refreshing and tasty and hipster London’s contribution to bitter! Though drinking the ale made me think of being in an apricot farm.

Back to the north for the Leeds Pale. I think I tried this when the pub reopened and I believe has its origins from the then new owners who came from the area (and indeed might have brewed it). A nice pint with a tang, a head and good colour. Very drinkable and no after taste.

That led back to the final and to the aficionados perhaps the most well known in the south, Harvey’s. From Sussex and traditionally hard to find. Clear and refreshing and only 4.0%.
The bitter deal was spot on. Struggling on a Monday to avoid the gym or the ironing then a little run down for a quick four pint tour round England for only £16. The Albert with its classic interior and then popular garden means you can drink there every Monday of the year!
