The Pembroke Castle is the link from Chalk Farm into Primrose Hill and one of the four historic “castle” pubs. Owned by Stonegate and recently redecorated and with a new menu we used the opportunity of the £9 lunch deal to check it out. Though we had also reminded ourselves of the fact this is one of the few places that shows sport by watching Declan net two peaches against the mighty Real a few nights before in a very convivial atmosphere!

The staff are still as friendly as ever and service was excellent. The meal deal was filling and just right for a midday break and only £2 extra for a pint. We caught it on a great Primrose Hill day when the garden was resplendent in sunshine; sit at the back and bring the sun cream! Is it true what they say about the Primrose Hill micro climate!?

The lunch was big, tasty ciabattas or flatbreads and fries; with a vegan option. Also for not much more there were nachos and my personal target of a kilo of wings; though these were meant to be shared! The non-alcoholic options were right for lunchtime and the Virgin Mary was prepared with real care and tasted great. The beers are good with Hobgoblin and Harvey’s and Pride; and work well when watching sport too!

This deal will go well and is a nice complement to the range of lunchtime options available around and about the foothills!
